Synopsis

The famous Grace College, located in a remote valley in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, is an elite school for highly gifted. But to Julia and her brother, it´s a much needed escape. But when they stumble upon a dead body their first week they´ll learn they can only run so far from their past. And that the valley has secrets of its own.......

My thoughts

Well, I want to start with the cover. I love this one, but nothing can beat the original covers. They are beautiful. I don´t speak very good German, but I want to have them!

As you know, this is the first book in the series. I loved it. The beginning was a little bit slow, but when all the things started happening.... wow. I loved this book. It´s not exactly creepy, but there is a lot of mistery.
The story follows two siblings, Julia and Robert Frost. They have to escape from their past, so they chose this school.
What I especially adored about this book, that not everything was revealed. A lot of books like this, start very misterious, but on the 10th page, you know everything about the characters. The secrets and their very very dark past. But it wasn´t like this in The Game. As you read the book, there are a few scenes that reveal
something, but not everyting. I am thinking about the kids. The only thing you know, that something really bad happened, and they cannot tell anybody.
And the valley. Omg. A creepy place like this! Everybody in Grace College knows, that this is a very bad place, but they have to stay there. One of the characters, I think Alex or Chris, said, that the valley changes everybody and everything. And that was true. When Julia first came, she was the shy one, but she was always smiling. But as she stayed in the school, she started changing. She made friends and became very very brave.
And then here´s Robert. He has these visions, or anything you call it. He know from the first moment, that
Grace College is not a good place.
Of course, there are other characters in the book. Like Debbie, Rose, Alex, Chris, Ben, Angela, Isabel and Katie. All of them are weird. For example: Rose is bald, Debbie is chubby, but she has a very dark secret. Ben has a camera, that he never puts down. Angela is in a wheelchair, she seems innocent, but as you know, everybody changes in the valley.
If you are looking for a very easy but good and misterious read, The Game is for you :) Oh, and I gave this book 4.5 out of 5 stars, because of the beginning, which was very slow and kind of boring.

Mini Book Haul #1 + Borrowed Book Haul #1

Hi! So yesterday I was shopping with my friend, and I didn´t have very much money, but I bought 3 books. But my fiend was shopping a lot of books lately, and he offered me, that I can borrow some books, and I happily accepted. So I came home with 11 books! And now I am here to introduce you to them :)

So let´s start with the books I actually bought for myself:

The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

I think everybody knows taht this book is amazing. It has very good rating on Goodreads, and I am sooo excited to read this book. Basically it´s about a school for fairy tail villians and heroes. As the title says :)

Ender´s Game by Orson Scott Card

I recently just watched the movie, and I have to say, it was amazing! I fell in love with it, so I had to have the
book. I didn´t really like the old cover, I think it was ugly, but this with the movie tie-in, is amazing! I can´t wait to read this!!

You don´t know, but I am a huge MH fan! I love the movies, the series, and now I have all the books at home! Oh, I want to read it nooow! :)

And now let´s get into the borrowed books:

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente

Such a long title! Flór, my friend who I borrowed books from, read it and he said, that it was pretty good. I didn´t want to read it for a long time, because it looked like a book for little kids, but after everybody said, that I have to read it, no matter how old I am, I decided to give it a try.

Looking for Alaska by John Green

After I read TFIOS, I decided, that I have to read at least this one too. I honestly am scared, because if somebody always dies at the end of every John Gren book, that I will prepare a lot of tissues.

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

I don´t know hat this book is about, but it has a very high rating on Goodreads and Flór loved it, so I have to read it very very soon.

12 Years a Slave | Movie Review

        12 Years a Slave

directed by Steve McQueen
based on Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup
starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Lupita Nyong´o, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt, Alfre Woodard
released on November 8, 2013
genres: biography, drama, history

Solomon Northup is a free African-American man who is kidnapped in Washington DC in 1841, and sold into slavery. Northup worked on plantations in the state of Luisiana for twelve years before his release.

My thoughts

So, where do I start? This movie..... yeah.
Okay, so I was very curios what was do movie about. I watched the oscars, and it becme the best movie of the year, so I thought, it must be good. And it was awesome!
So let´s start at te beginning. I...... I don´t know what to say, because words can´t describe what I saw. It was so heartbreaking and sad, I cried so many times. I didn´t cry just because the slaves had some bad scenes, but because I was thinking about it, and while watching the movie, you realize, that it really happened. That slaves really were like animals, and they couldn´t do anything about it. And this especially made me cry.
At first start with Chiwetel. He is an amazing actor. What he did, was incredible. Even know, you cry almost
the whole film, you enjoy it. But I have to start, there were some scenes, that were a bit too long. I think I count 3, maybe 4. Like there was a scene when you see Solomon breathing after a fight I think, and it lasts for 3 minutes. Like WHAT? Or we watch the water for 2-3 minutes. Why? And the best one, when Solomon is almost killed, he is hanging on a rope, and a) nobody cares, they don´t even help him, and b) the scene is 4 minutes long! Like, okay, I got it in the first 2 minutes, I don´t need 2 more! But, as I was saying in the beginning, this movie was incredible, and so was Chiwetel.

Then, there was Lupita. Such an amazing actor. The scenes that she had..... omg. Patsey. Patsey is a very ambitious young lady, but she has a terrible life. She and Solomon, and a lot of other people work on a plantage. Patsey works the most. She picked 500 pounds of cotton every day. The avarage for men was 200. Can you think about how strong she had to be? But, that´s not it. Mister Epps (Michael Fassbender)
loves her, but his wife hates her. There are a few scenes, that you cry. She hits her so much, that you can feel her pain even before she felts it. She has such a heartbreaking
story. I felt terrible for her.

I got this from mistress Shaw. Mrs Epps won´t even grab me no soap to clean with. I stink so much, I make myslef gag. 500 pounds of cotton. Day in and day out. More than any man here. And for that I will be clean. That´s all I ask.

I was in tears........ and there were a couple of scenes when I cried too. This is a film worth watching. If you haven´t watched it yet, you should. You should.

I apologize for my appearance. But I have had a difficult time these past several years.
